Title : Satellite technician performs deployment testing of a solar wing

Caption :

Satellite technician at Hughes Space and Communications Company performs deployment testing of a solar wing for the UHF Follow-On F-10 spacecraft, built by Hughes for the U.S. Navy. The satellite's solar array consists of two 34-foot solar wings, which will generate more than 3,800 watts of power at end-of-life. UFO F-10 is the 10th in the series of Hughes-built satellites to support the DoD's communication requirements, which range from from mobile communications to intelligence dissemination to quality-of-life programming. F-10 is the third satellite to carry the high-capacity global broadcast service payload consisting of four 130-watt military Ka-band transponders with three steerable downlink spot beam antennas and one steerable and one fixed uplink antenna. This new payload provides a 96 Mbps data transmission capability. UFO F-10 is scheduled to launch on an Atlas IIA rocket Nov. 21 from Cape Canaveral, Fla.
